This is a collection of some of my favorite tunes. Through the magic of Maynard's recording, we were able to record multiple tracks and complement the harp with English concertina, ukulele, and guitar.
Here are some 30 second samples:
Greensleeves is an English tune, probably from the 16th century. Solo harp.
The oft-recorded La Paloma was written in 1861 by the Spanish composer Sebastian Yradier after he visited Cuba. Harp, with a little guitar thrown in.
Ahe Lau Makani was written by Queen Lili`uokalani, her sister Likelike, and Kapoli, in 1868. Puna Paia A`ala, also from 1868, was written by Lili`uokalani. With harp and ukulele.
The Theme from "Jupiter" is from Gustav Holst's suite The Planets. Solo harp.
Metsakukkia (Forest Flower) is from Finland, played on harp, concertina, and with a special guest appearance by the $35 Savers guitar.
The Star of the County Down, from Ireland, is an unusual Irish love song, because it has a happy ending! Played with harp and concertina.
She Moved Through the Fair, also from Ireland, doesn't have quite such a happy ending, although the singer's lover does come back to haunt him. Solo harp.
The Minuet in G is from the Anna Magdalena Notebook (1725). Solo harp.
Lord Inchiquin was written by Turlough O'Carolan, the famous Irish harper, who traveled around Ireland, composing tunes in honor of patrons such as the good Mr. Inchiquin. Harp, concertina, and ukulele.
The well known Pachelbel's Canon in D is a favorite Baroque piece. Solo harp.
The South Wind is an Irish tune, with harp, concertina, and ukulele.
Red is the Rose is an Irish song, but you might recognize the melody as being the same as that of the Scottish song Loch Lomond. Harp, concertina, and ukulele.
